Having first showcased it at the Auto Expo in February this year, Hero are launching the Splendor iSmart commuter bike across the country on July 14. This is the first iteration of the Splendor after the splitting of Hero MotoCorp and Honda. The new Splendor is expected to command the same volumes that the motorcycle brand is used to.
The new Hero Splendor iSmart 110 will come powered by a 110cc engine that will deliver nine percent more power and six percent more fuel economy in comparison to the existing model, the company claims. The bike will get the same i3s technology to increase fuel economy that is employed in the company’s existing 100cc model, Splendor iSmart. The i3s technology automatically shuts down the engine under long idle and restarts it simply when the rider presses the clutch lever. With this, Hero had claimed the maximum fuel economy figure of 102.50kmpl for a motorcycle, which eventually boasted the Splendor iSmart as the most fuel efficient motorcycle in the world.
The Splendor has been the most coveted name in the Indian motorcycle industry for the longest time, commanding the sales chart. However, the market’s recent preference towards scooters has ensured that the Honda Activa is leading the two wheeler sales list for the past six consecutive months.
Moreover, the new Splendor 110 iSmart will also have to prove the bike maker’s R&D capabilities, since it was the reliability of the Honda motor that it so popular over the past decades. The new Hero Splendor iSmart 110 will also have to compete with some capable products in the country including the newly launched TVS Victor 110, Yamaha Saluto RX as well as the Honda Livo.
