While Harley-Davidson are famous for massive cruisers that are more about road presence and classic looks, they do have a sportster division that focuses more on the performance aspect of their bikes.
Their latest creation is the new, updated Roadster which is powered by a mad 1200 cc fire-breathing monster of an engine that produces earth-shattering torque. At one glance you can see the similarities between the Roadster and the Iron 883 which was one of the 3 bikes initially launched in India by Harley-Davidson. The Roadster is all about styling. “Since its introduction in 1957, the Harley-Davidson Roadster has proved capable of constant reinvention, and the Roadster writes a new chapter in that story,” said Harley-Davidson Director of Styling Brad Richards. “We’ve watched our customers take the Roadster in so many different directions. The Harley Davidson Roadster is a mash-up of styling genres, but the intent was to build a rider’s motorcycle, a Sportster that’s lean and powerful and connects the rider to the road.”
Harley-Davidson says the bike is particularly inspired by its racing successes of the 1950s and 60s.

“We wanted to give the Roadster some DNA from the high-performance KHR models of the mid-50s, and later Sportsters tuned for the drag strip,” said Richards. “Those bikes had fenders cut to the struts, the small fuel tank, and were stripped to their bare essentials to achieve a singular performance purpose.”
They have certainly succeeded in this aspect and the latest Harley Davidson Roadster looks absolutely stellar with its blacked-out engine, shorty dual exhaust with chrome mufflers, slammed drag-style handlebar and gauges, blacked-out headlamp, 12.5 litre “walnut” gas tank, bobbed rear fender, side-mount license plate, and brand new wheels that are unique to this model. The dual front discs also provide some much needed stopping power that will help in reining in this beast of an engine.
Overall, it looks like a brilliant bike and we just can’t wait to see how it performs on the road. What do you think about the latest Harley Davidson Roadster? Let us know in the comments below.
