The season for the famed Leh-Ladakh road trip is almost upon us and this year, the Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey is back for its 13th edition. A tradition that was started in 1997 is now one of the most popular and recognized events in India’s biking scene and for good reason.
On the 9th of July 2016, some of the most adventurous bikers in the country will set off on their beloved Enfields as they journey from Delhi to the magnificent Himalayas. Over the course of the 18 day trip, the riders will cover over 2200 kms, tackling the harshest terrain and the world’s highest motor-able passes as they go along. This is no easy road trip but it is undertaken by so many bikers every year because finishing it grants you the title of having completed India’s toughest bike trip, and that’s a badge you can wear with pride forever.
This year though, Royal Enfield had a surprise in store for everyone – 2016 will mark the introduction of the Himalayan Odyssey Women’s Edition. This ride will have 20 participants and they will travel separately from the other group. The HO-W also starts off on the 9th of July from Delhi, but the route planned is entirely different. The men’s group will travel through Manali – Keylong – Sarchu – Leh – Debring – Keylong – Kaza – Kalpa -Chandigarh. Whereas the women’s group will follow the route of Solan – Narkanda – Manali – Jispa – Sarchu – Leh – Khardung La – Tso Moriri – Tso Kar – Manali – Gushaini – Chandigarh. I must say that looking at Khardung La and the beautiful lakes of Tso Moriri and Tso Kar on the travel itinerary of the women’s group, they seem to have gotten the beater deal.
This year’s Himalayan Odyssey is sure to be amazing. Registrations are also open on the Royal Enfield website so you can sign up for the road trip of a lifetime right now. If you still aren’t convinced, take a look at the video of the 10th Himalayan Odyssey:
