Savandurga, considered as one of the largest monolith hills in Asia lies 60 km west of Bangalore. Savandurga comprises two hills known locally as Karigudda (black hill) and Biligudda (white hill). Travellers can get two-wheelers on rent from bike rentals in Bangalore and explore the hills at their leisure.

Many families and groups of youngsters also frequent the hills for picnics and road trips. The place is very close to Bangalore and hence riders prefer to hire bikes in Bangalore and visit the place by road as Bangalore bike rentals have made hiring two wheelers easier.

Many cave explorers, rock climbers and adventure sport- lovers often find Savandurga a perfect place for exploring, trekking, climbing and sight-seeing.  The Akravati river can be seen from the top of the hill and is the picturesque trek with a perennial lotus pond to add more starts to its beauty. Savandurga is famous for the shooting of few of the most legendary movies like Sholay and Passage to India for its scenic background that looks great on camera.

Savandurga is a paradise for rock –climbers as it provides some top class serious slab climbing routes in the world. Since rock climbing is tedious, it is advisable to start your trek early in the morning after a light snack so that the stone doesn’t get heated up when you reach the top. Starting early also offers you more opportunities to see the beautiful, cool and misty morning. The mist evaporates as the sun ascends thus the scenic beauty is at its best at around 7-8 am. One can start from Bangalore at around 5-6 am to reach Savandurga by 7 am, without rush. Bikers can hire Royal Enfield in Bangalore to ride to the foothills of Savandurga in style.

Billigudda trek is easier while Karigudda is difficult because it is steeper as compared to BilliguddaThere are many slab routes which can be covered in half-a-day to one day, depending of climatic conditions and a few other factors. Most popular routes include Beladingulu, Simple Monkey Day, Deepavali set of routes, Cloud 9 and Shanti Das. Out of these, Cloud 9 is the easiest route while Shanti Das is the hardest and more challenging. One should start the descent at around 4-5 pm to reach the foothills before dark.

Apart from the adventure sports and rock climbing, Savandurga has the ancient temple of Sri Savandi Veerabhadraswamy Virabhadra which is situated in the foothills of the region. Lord Veerabhadraswamy is worshipped in South Karnataka districts like Bangalore, Ramanagara, Tumkur and Mysore. There is also a temple of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, where there is an Idol of Lord Narasimha.
