Sringeri or Shringeri is a small town in the Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka. It is a place of the math established by Adi Shankara. The town is located on the banks of the river Tunga.  The site is well connected by roads to major cities of Karnataka and Bangalore bike rentals have made it possible for tourists to get bikes on rent and hire two-wheelers in Bangalore to ride to other cities of Karnataka.

Sringeri is a sight that Adi Shankaracharya is said to have selected the place to stay and teach his disciples. He stayed there for twelve years and established mathas in the northern (at Jyotirmath, near Badrinath), eastern (at Puri) and western (at Dwaraka) parts of India. The town is known for many historical places mainly Sri Sharadamba temple and Sri Vidyashankara temple and Parshwanath Jain temple.

The Sharada temple is dedicated to the Goddess of learning and wisdom and has now become a famous temple. It is said that Vidyaranya replaced the old sandalwood image with a stone and gold image. The temple was initially built of wood but it got destroyed during a fire after which it was reconstructed in the traditional south Indian style of temple architecture.

Another important temple of Sringeri is the Vidyashankara Temple which was built in the memory of pontiff Vidyashankara. The temple has a number of sculptures from the Hindu mythology and it combines Hoysala and Vijayanagara features of architecture. It is also an exhibition of the astronomical expertise of medieval south Indian temple builders as the temple hall features 12 pillars designated to each of the 12 signs of the zodiac. The doors and windows have been designed in such a way that the equinoxes sunrise views reach the deity. The solstice sunrise is visible from the northern and southern gates. It is an epitome of architecture, astronomical knowledge and Hindu mythology. Those who admire such places must definitely pay a visit to this temple and be prepared to drop their jaws in amazement. They can hire bikes in Bangalore and visit the city by road on their choice of bike or scooter on rent.

Apart from the wonderful temples, the town is also known for Sirimane Falls, located 12 km from Sringeri. It is advisable to visit the falls by two-wheelers as the roads are pretty narrow. Bike rentals in Bangalore have played a major role in increasing tourist visits to these falls by offering them two-wheelers on rent. Other major falls that decorate the town are the Hanumanagundi Falls or Soothanabbi falls. These falls lie in the National Forest which is famous for the Shola forests, 36 km from the city.

All in all the little town of Sringeri is famous for its maths, beautiful and well-planned temples along with the waterfalls that one can keep on gazing at mesmerized. The town also offers accommodation to visitors and people visiting Karnataka can go to the town by hiring bikes in Bangalore and planning a road trip. Harley Davidson, R15, and Bullet on rent in Bangalore are also available to suit the style and personality of the youth wishing to pay a visit to Sringeri.
